I
Intro
All rise, all rise,
for the kings of the comment section.
Verse 1
He got a crown from a filter and a throne from a trend,
ten thousand followers and not a single friend,
he sells you a sunrise with a discount code,
says "be authentic" in a sponsored mode.
She's a guru of calm with a ring-light glow,
teaching inner peace at ninety-nine a go,
and me? I'm laughing, but I'm not above it,
I posted this verse and I'm checking if they love it.
Chorus
Paper kings, paper kings,
dancing in a kingdom made of borrowed things,
one strong wind and the whole court sings,
long live, long live the paper kings.
Verse 2
The empire's built on a screenshot and a smile,
the treasury is likes and the army is a file,
they fight about thrones in a forty-second clip
while the real world waits on a sinking ship.
Wisdom in a caption, philosophy in a meme,
every little villain thinks he's starring in a dream,
I'm not here to preach, I'm just here to say,
paper burns easy on a windy day.
Bridge
Crown on my head, it's cardboard and glue,
but I wear it with pride, and honestly, so do you.
Chorus
Paper kings, paper kings,
dancing in a kingdom made of borrowed things,
one strong wind and the whole court sings,
long live, long live the paper kings.
II
Paper Kings laughs at the thrones we build out of screenshots and sponsored sunsets, but it does not let the narrator off the hook. The joke lands on everyone, including the person telling it.
III
What it feels like
Laughing at the emperor's new clothes while quietly checking your own.
In summary
A playful, biting satire about status, vanity and the kingdoms we build out of nothing.
