I
Verse 1
I write to you in silver ink
on paper made of midnight air,
I fold each word before I think
and leave it on the windowsill there.
Pre-Chorus
The street is asleep, the candles are low,
and every unsent thing I know
is waiting for the light to go.
Chorus
These are my moonlit letters,
carried on a borrowed glow,
every line I never sent you
is the truest thing I know.
If the moon is all we share now,
let it tell you, soft and slow,
I am still here writing, darling,
in the silver and the snow.
Verse 2
Your name still lives inside my hands,
I trace it on the frosted glass,
the clock has rules I understand
but none of them can make this pass.
Pre-Chorus
The night is a room with only one door,
and I keep knocking, wanting more
of the voice I was listening for.
Chorus
These are my moonlit letters,
carried on a borrowed glow,
every line I never sent you
is the truest thing I know.
Bridge
Maybe love is just a light
that leaves long before it lands,
maybe all we ever hold
is what slips between our hands.
Outro
So I write to you in silver ink,
and the moon, as always, understands.
II
Moonlit Letters is about the conversations we keep having with people who are no longer there to answer. The narrator writes every night, folding each letter into the light of the moon, knowing it will never arrive.
The moon in the song is not decoration. It is a witness, the one thing both people can still see at the same time, however far apart they are.
III
What it feels like
Like reading an old letter by the light of a phone screen: warm, and unbearably far away.
In summary
A love song written as a letter that is never sent, where the moon becomes the only messenger.
IV
The first line arrived before the melody: I write to you in silver ink. Everything else grew around it over a long, sleepless week.
The bridge was rewritten many times, until it stopped explaining the feeling and simply let it be.
